On June 15th, excitement filled Sherborne as bustling crowds gathered for a lively market day in the heart of town. Streets closed to traffic created an inviting atmosphere for about 200 stalls showcasing local artisans and small businesses. Among them, my friend Rebecca and I set up our stall, eager to share our love for natural and aromatic products. The day turned out to be filled with joy, camaraderie, and impressive sales!
Setting the Scene: Sherborne Market
Half Moon Street and Cheap Street transformed into an energetic marketplace, drawing families, friends, and locals eager to explore its offerings. The beautiful sunny weather was a blessing, inviting visitors to explore colourful crafts and delicious treats. I felt a rush of excitement knowing I was part of something meaningful and engaging.
Our stall enjoyed a prime location near the historic Abbey, which not only made for an ideal setup but also provided enchanting scenery. The warm sunlight highlighted our goods, creating an appealing array of colours and delightful scents.

The Dynamic Duo: Bath Salts and Soaps
Partnering with Rebecca was a great decision. She offered her handmade soaps under the brand Alona Soaps, while we crafted a harmonious blend of relaxation and self-care items together. Our fragrant bath salts, particularly the aromatic “Tranquility Soak,” became the highlight of our stall.
“Tranquillity Soak” is more than just a name; it contains a blend of lavender, geranium, and clary sage essential oils, mixed with Epsom and Himalayan salts, that promises an exceptional spa experience right at home. Our range includes other scents that cater to different preferences, from the calming scent of rose to refreshing citrus—a selection that appealed to many shoppers.
Some key statistics revealed the popularity of our bath salts. Over 60% of customers who picked up the product ultimately made a purchase. Their enthusiasm fuelled our enthusiasm and underscored the quality of what we offered.
Building Community Spirit
One of the best parts of the day was connecting with fellow stallholders. The market thrummed with friendly conversations and laughter as everyone exchanged tips and shared stories. It was wonderful to witness such support, fostering a warm and inviting atmosphere. Vendors selling everything from handcrafted jewellery to artisanal bread united in a mission: to share joy through our creations.
Our shared experiences turned strangers into friends. Many stallholders expressed admiration for each other’s crafts, which contributed to the event's overall positivity. The diverse array of products encapsulated the market’s spirit, creating an inclusive space filled with life and creativity.
Best Sellers Shine Bright
Throughout our time at the market, “Tranquility Soak” emerged as the clear favourite. Customers were drawn in by its serene name and the promise of relaxation it offered. As we shared stories and details about the ingredients with potential buyers, sales surged.

Lessons Learned and Future Visions
Looking back on the day, I realised that local markets provide so much more than a space for sales. They are crucial for fostering community, inspiring creativity, and bringing people together. The support from other stallholders, the positive feedback from customers, and the overall camaraderie fueled an enriching experience.
I am thrilled by how well our stall performed, and I am also motivated to learn and grow the business. With ideas for new products and potential collaborations already taking shape, I feel optimistic about the future. Events like this inspire innovative thinking and highlight the power of community and collaboration.
